Selective mutism

Treatment at Connect Voice & Speech Clinic
Selective mutism is a complex anxiety disorder characterized by an individual’s consistent inability to speak in specific social situations, despite being able to speak comfortably in other settings. It often begins in childhood and can persist into adolescence and adulthood if left untreated. Children with selective mutism may appear shy or withdrawn in social situations and may avoid speaking altogether, particularly in settings such as school or public places.
At Connect Voice & Speech Clinic, we utilize the SYMUT® therapy program, a specialized treatment approach developed in Germany by Dr Boris Hartmann and first used in Australia. This program is designed to address the unique needs of individuals with selective mutism, helping them overcome their communication challenges in various social settings.
At Connect Voice & Speech Clinic, our experienced therapists are dedicated to providing compassionate and effective care through the SYMUT® therapy program. We create a supportive and nurturing environment where clients feel safe to explore and overcome their communication challenges. Our goal is to empower individuals with selective mutism to confidently engage in social settings, enhancing their overall communication skills and quality of life.
